Skilled Intervention
Aim:
-
To enable participants to effectively use distraction and de-escalation techniques as a key tool.

To enable participants to identify and risk assess escalating factors associated with behaviour at the earliest opportunity.
Learning Objectives:
-
Explain how key legislation, policies and procedures function together within Health and Social Care, providing key guidance on interfaces between each of these.

Explain which factors may influence or escalate a situation, through both personal and environmental factors, with regard for staff involvement.

Demonstrate the effective use of communication skills in order to achieve a desired outcome.
-
Identify the importance of person centred approach within all aspects of care.

Explain key de-escalation skills and distraction techniques and how they may achieve the desired outcome.

Demonstrate risk assessments for any given scenario, including post event evaluation.
-
Understand the key principles of a safe approach and how to disengage from a hold.
-
Practice and demonstrate the safe and effective de-escalation of any situation, in the least restrictive manner.

Completion of a post course exercise which validates key skills and knowledge delivered throughout the course. The duration of the training is a full day, with a booklet that is completed during the training to validate all concepts discussed.
