SKILLED INTERVENTIONS

Skilled Intervention

Aim:

  1. To enable participants to effectively use distraction and de-escalation techniques as a key tool.

  2. To enable participants to identify and risk assess escalating factors associated with behaviour at the earliest opportunity.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Explain how key legislation, policies and procedures function together within Health and Social Care, providing key guidance on interfaces between each of these.

  2. Explain which factors may influence or escalate a situation, through both personal and environmental factors, with regard for staff involvement.

  3. Demonstrate the effective use of communication skills in order to achieve a desired outcome.

  4. Identify the importance of person centred approach within all aspects of care.

  5. Explain key de-escalation skills and distraction techniques and how they may achieve the desired outcome.

  6. Demonstrate risk assessments for any given scenario, including post event evaluation.

  7. Understand the key principles of a safe approach and how to disengage from a hold.

  8. Practice and demonstrate the safe and effective de-escalation of any situation, in the least restrictive manner.

  9. Completion of a post course exercise which validates key skills and knowledge delivered throughout the course. The duration of the training is a full day, with a booklet that is completed during the training to validate all concepts discussed.

ALL DELEGATES WILL BE PROVIDED WITH A CERTIFICATE OF ATTENDANCE ON SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THIS COURSE.
