SAFEGUARDING

LEVEL 1
Safeguarding Adults Awareness

Target Group
All staff and volunteers who work within the health or social care sector, customer service organisations or other employers who come into contact with adults that may be deemed as vulnerable. This course is fully adherent to the Care Act (2014), forming a core part of the organisations ability to proactively combat abuse.

Content

• History, context and definitions
• Recognising abuse – types, indicators, patterns
• Responding to potential abuse, disclosures and allegations
• Overview of safeguarding adults process, roles and responsibilities
• Identifying sources of support and information

ALL DELEGATES WILL BE PROVIDED WITH A CERTIFICATE OF ATTENDANCE ON SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THIS COURSE.

Refresher Training

Target Group
Anyone who has completed safeguarding adult’s awareness training in the previous 2 years, or those with experience of adult safeguarding but no formal training.

Content

• Assessment of current knowledge and experience
• Reminder of definitions, forms and indicators
• Update on changes in policy, legislation, requirements within procedures
• Application to future practice

LEVEL 2
Safeguarding
– Managing staff and recruitment, capability and retention

Target Group
Managers, primarily in provider services, who have responsibility for:

• recruitment and selection
• disciplinary and/or safeguarding investigations
• patient safety and clinical governance

Nursing and social care agency staff would benefit from attending. Participants must have attended some safeguarding training in the previous two years or provide evidence of a working knowledge of Safeguarding adults processes.

Content

• Explore the interface between disciplinary proceedings, safeguarding and possible criminal investigations
• Examine how safe existing recruitment and induction processes are.
• Outline the role of supervision, education and training in keeping adults safe

LEVEL 3
Full Day Safeguarding managers’ Course (Social Care/Health care Team Leader)

Target Group
Attendees should be social workers, nurses, community psychiatric nurses, medical practitioners or safeguarding leads/managers within the organisation.

Learning Outcomes

• Define the roles and responsibilities of a Safeguarding Manager
• Describe the criteria used to determine thresholds into adult protection processes
• List the purpose and outcomes of a strategy meeting
• Outline the Safeguarding Manger’s role in chairing a strategy meeting
• Describe the Safeguarding Manager’s role in supervision, recording and decision making in the investigative stage.

LEVEL 2
Safeguarding Children

Course Outline – 3 hours duration
Safeguarding Children is everybody’s responsibility. This course provides an understanding of Child Abuse, harm and neglect. The course highlights both signs and indicators of abuse, looking at early warning signs that may lead to preventative and supportive actions. This will include how to report information, in response to concerns you have about a child.

Aim

The aim of the course is to equip you with all the relevant information and knowledge to effectively safeguard children within your workplace environment, understanding your role in safeguarding and how to act appropriately to safeguard all children you come into contact with.

Objectives

• Introduction to key legislation, policies and procedures, giving us the “Keeping our Children Safe from Harm” framework.
• Recent child protection cases (SCR findings) that have shaped current legislation.
• To identify risk factors that may make some children more vulnerable than others.
• Outline the Safeguarding Manger’s role in chairing a strategy meeting To define Abuse, Harm and Neglect.
• Identify the categories of abuse and indicators of abuse.
• To discuss the impact the Toxic Trio has upon the child.

Mental Health, Substance Misuse & Domestic Violence.

• Identify the considerations necessary when receiving a disclosure of abuse.
• Understanding your professional accountability and responsibility for sharing information with regards to Child Abuse.
• Discuss the role of Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO).
• Recognise the importance of Documentation and record keeping in effective protection of children
• Identify the categories of abuse and indicators of abuse.
•Understand how to process the referral, what the referral outcomes mean and how to deal with unresolved concerns.
• To be able to understand what constitutes child maltreatment and be able to identify any sign of child abuse or neglect.
